This was another garment I created using Julian Roberts’ subtraction cutting technique. It uses circles the width of the hips sewn together and reduces volume while creating abstract shapes. Sometimes you know what will happen and sometimes you do not know. This is a typical look when created with subtraction cutting. I used a burnt orange crushed velvet to play with shine and movement in this garment.

The overall look resembles a futuristic flapper style after putting it on a model. I was rather impressed with this technique and it lead to being used in a more control manner with my “Radiance” project.
