My sister loves to learn about foreign countries. After meeting a gentleman from Armenia, she of course went to research Armenia and found this awesome music video “PreGomesh” by Sirusho, a singer in Armenia (you can check it out on YouTube!). In the video, Sirusho is featured in traditional Armenian costumes, and when we saw them, we just loved them all!
Being a seamstress, I thought I could take on the Armenian inspiration and had been looking for the perfect pattern to remake the Armenian vest in the video. I bought the Magic Pattern book to enter into BurdaStyle’s competition and when I found the Daphne, I knew that that was my vest pattern! I still had to work some “magic” on it to get it just right though. I enlarged the armholes to mimic the inspiration vest, added a yoke, and removed the back side seams and put in a back center seam (which is featured in the original vest as well). I also took off the button extensions as I wanted the two sides of the vest to JUST meet at center front, not overlap like a buttoned vest. I also took the point out of the front hem and lowered the neckline just a little bit.
The vest is made from an acrylic print from Jo-Ann’s, with pleather bias trim and yoke. The inside is lined with a blue sweater knit, which also makes it warmer for those cold fall nights!
