David found this beautiful, textured fabric in a small fabric store for a discounted price. Of course, how could one resist lovely, cheap fabric?

We decided to make a tank top with it, using the beginner-friendly 02/2011 Mesh Shirt pattern. This pattern is great because it comes with both a tank top and t-shirt pattern. Either one could be created by itself for a single, chic garment.

Instead of making just one tank top with David’s fabric, we decided to make another one in cotton batiste, and used it as lining. We then shortened the outer tank top and kept the original hem of the lining underneath for a unique, two-tiered effect (a similar idea is seen in our Two-Tiered Skirt project). Rather than hem the ends, we simply serged them for a decidedly bohemian feel.

This look is perfect for summer days at the park, or midnight strolls along the beach. And as David shows, this pattern can be suited for either a man or a woman, and easily be completed in a single weekend.

Beginner-level sewers may have a bit of a difficulty creating the lining, but feel free to create a simple tank top without it, or experiment with another variation of your choice.
