This dress was made for a prom. My customer had seen a Zuhair Murad dress on the runway and wanted it copying – not surprising as it’s a couture dress and would have been about £10,000! We simplified it a bit – the lace I used had a narrower flounce on it so you don’t quite get the same effect through the split. We also made the detail at the top of the split a bit less flamboyant. The original dress had a lot of fabric at the bum but we wanted a more streamlined look.
I used a simple, strapless column dress pattern and wrapped a gold silk sash around it using my tailors dummy.
