I was very tentative to make my very first pair of trousers but when I saw the pattern for the Marilyn Trousers, I knew I had to try. Overall I was happy with the results since I can rarely find high waisted capris that I like.
For the most part, the pattern was simple to follow. As I said before it was my first pair of pants, so I had no idea what a yoke was. Zippers are always a problem for me, and I did get a little lost trying to follow the pattern’s instructions but in the end it worked out. I took off 4 inches from the pattern since I am about 5’3". I wish I knew how to make these a bit tighter in the legs without messing up the pleat’s effect, but I’m a bit of a novice so I didnt even try.Olive green pinstriped suiting

Haha I don’t think they looked THAT bad on the model but since they are named Marilyn trousers, they may have looked better on a… fuller model. It was one of the reasons I wasnt encouraged to make them at first too.
Other than shortening it I didnt make any alterations, though I could have stood to loosen the waistline a bit. When I made this in other fabrics I enlarged the waistline but left the rest the same and it fit perfectly! I

Definitely a great fitting pattern, however the ballooning effect of the pleats when your sitting down is not so incredible ;)

See what you mean! Watch the first episode of ‘Curb your enthusiasm’-first season. (I am a fan, and I keep banging on about it). Larry David sums it up too well…

I actually think the fit you got is really nice. I had problems with the waistband and pleats creating a “fupa” effect if you know what I mean… Yours looks so good. Maybe I should try again!
