This is one of the three-in-one La Sylphide pattern by Papercut Patterns. The pattern has a dress and skirt as well as the blouse, and their patterns come beautifully packaged (and free worldwide shipping!). I thought I should start making more ‘grown-up’ clothes, and also more tops. I like blouses, but had never found any I wanted. I saw this Zebra fabric – so much better than just Zebra-stripe fabric – at Spotlight and thought it would be perfect for a fun, feminine, blouse.
I was worried that using the georgette would be difficult. It was awkward to cut the pattern pieces out, and I had to be careful to weight it down while I traced the pieces in chalk. But it was surprisingly easy to sew with it. I didn’t want the fabric to fray, so every seam is covered using bias binding. I also decided to use press studs rather than do buttonholes, because the fabric does fray. There are buttons on the outside, but they’re purely decorative.
