Description

Pleated skirt made of yellow denim fabric. I’m not pleased with the result because the pleat opens as I walk. I tried a couple of things to fix the problem but it remains. I think the basic problem was the fabric choise. Thanks for looking!

Lovely skirt, looks great on you. I think , your skirt is a bit tight in the hip area. Try to let out a bit from the side seams, and also sew down more in the middle of the pleat, so it will open below your hip. I’ve asked my friend who I went to sewing school with, she thinks the same. I hope this will help.

Thank you very much for your advice and you are 100% right. The pattern itself was a little more loose and called for a more closed pleat. This way it was ok when standing, but awful when walking because the denim is stiff. I moved the point of the front opening to all possible positions. Finally I gave up and finished it this way. When I calm down I’ll try to fix it as you say:) Thanks a lot!!

You really did a nice job, and I’m sorry it isn’t working! Do you think the fabric will soften, and perhaps drape better after several washings? That color seems so popular now and you wear it well.

Well I think that if the fabric was more soft and drapey it would look more cute while walking. This is denim and looks weird as it opens… or maybe it’s my idea I don’t know. I tried to close it with external topstiching but it didn’t work. Maybe the pattern isn’t well drafted or I made some mistake while tracing, who knows. But I spent so much time and got bored with this. I go to the next project. Thanks for looking Mary!

oh i kmow what you mean now. would it be to tight if you stiched the pleat closed? i thought of topstitching as well but you’ve tried that. it really does look great though x

You mean stich to create a triangle? I tried that and it’s worst this way. But if you mean stich it to entirely close the pleat then yes, it is very tight. I would be very happy to find a solution cause I spent so much time in such a simple project.
If you have some other suggestion I would appreciate it! (But I appreciate anyway that you take the time to write a lovely comment on my projects!! x)
