A sudden need to make teeny little overalls for Miss M arrived with the off-cuts of heavy-weight yellow fabric for the kinder teepee project. It took a while to track down a pattern, but Kwik Sew 2785 found its way into my life with the added bonus of printing at home (which soon became more or a burden than a bonus, thanks to the circa 1990s SewingPatterns.com website%&new_category=search&view=gallery&brand=&category=search&pageGoto=0&pageFormat=3|186|186&pageCount=18&search=2785&return=yes

We got there in the end, with some sweet vintage floral fabric for the pocket lining and buttons from Paris that had just been waiting for the right project. They just fit in the body and have plenty of width, which means I can get a few more years out of the pattern by adding length to the body and legs. These are a toddler pattern and feature snaps all around the leg inseam, which I scrapped in favour of a plain old seam. This almost-four-year-old can figure out how to get her overalls off when the need arises.

They’re exactly what I was hoping for, with the (wonky) double top-stitching, pockets galore for treasures, and brass buckles. The yellow is a big hit and they’ve quickly been put to the test, playing on the balcony, riding a bike, and climbing all over the playground. Perfect for summer!
