Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I made this using a vintage pattern I bought on ebay. I’ve always wanted a black and yellow vintage dress like this and I finally found the right fabric. It was a little see-thru so the dress is fully lined. This is actually my first collar. I altered the pattern to make it curved and added piping. I’m amazed it came out ok. The skirt is very full. I tried to match the lace on the bottom the best I could without wasting too much fabric. The belt in the picture is Zac Posen for Target.

Material Notes
I used a lovely lightweight yellow fabric I found in the discount section of Joanne’s. The lining is a cotton blend. New shiny black buttons, but an old yellow coated metal zipper.

This dress is so fabulous! I’ve been wanting a shirt dress for some time and this has put it over the top! I love the puffy sleeve detail that you’ve added. And the piping is AMAZING!

You commented on the full skirt—I grew up in the fifties and started sewing when I was 8. Every dress I made (we wore dresses to school every day back then—remember ladies?) had a very full skirt. Might be why I came to hate gathers and love the straight skirts when I got in high school. You did a great job with the piping and collar!

Great pictures and dress! I saw this fabric in Joann’s clearance section too. I wanted it really bad, I couldn’t get it then: and when I went back, it was totally gone. I love the use of the the adorable material.
