An original variation to the typical harem pants: wrap harem pants. It has a very wide waist. You close the pants with a button on the left side, then wrapping the left side to the right and finally closing a button on the right side. Therefore, at the front you have three layers of fabric! This made it a bit difficult to work the buttonholes and attach the buttons. But I managed..
I decided to make it size 38 (I usually have 36), since I wanted the waistband to be a few centimeters below my waist. This appeared to be unnecessary, because now the trousers were too wide. That was easily solved by taking in the side seams.
I am really pleased with the end result! These pants are really comfortable. You can wear them in spring and summer, but they also look nice with a pair of boots in fall.
The material is a jersey blend (viscose, polyester), deep purple / aubergine colour

you’ve done a fine job here and i’m sure they’re super comfortable and really well tailored. Your sewing skills look spot on! But am i the only one here who looks back at the Hammer Pants of the early 90s and cringes? Seriously, has this come back too?? Wow, well to each their own. Enjoy the comfort. Hopefully you won’t hate your pictures in 20 years times as i hate my 7th grade photos.

LOL I certainly hope not!
In the early nineties I wasn’t able yet to dress myself and the word ‘fashion’ was not yet in my vocabulary (I was 3 when the nineties began). However, when I googled for “hammer pants” something familiar came up: MC Hammer! (hence the name of course, but I hadn’t seen the connection until the images of MC Hammer appeared..)
And indeed, they are back! In the Netherlands for at least 3 seasons now.
Hope I won’t regret wearing these in 20 years time.

I have that issue and have also been tempted to make those pants! They just look so very comfortable, I could totally see wearing them when I work at home —I don’t work in pajamas, I need to get dressed for work even if I’m at home but I do need to be comfortable. Thanks for the inspiration, great job. :)

I can’t say that I would wear pants like that in public, but I have to say that your sewing skills are awesome! That looks like it’s extremely difficult to achieve and you just nailed it! Great job!

Mooi! Burda 7/2010, right? I love that issue, so many great patterns. I might make that harem pants myself! But first I’m planning to make model 110 from that same issue. Vraagje: waar haal jij je stof vandaan? Liefs!
