When I started seeing peplums everywhere, I had to jump on the bandwagon!
I have always loved peplums for flattering waist-defining qualities, and I also wanted some draping and pattern drafting practice.
I started out drafting the bodice, then quickly ditched it and switched to draping when nothing fit me correctly.
The skirt was entirely drafted, and I regret that i didn’t drape it either! Most of my fitting problems seem to come from the skirt portion of the dress.
The peplum is basically a mini circle skirt.
The dress is faced and fully lined in some kind of very fragile and silky polyester that I immediately ripped putting in the zipper :-/
Overall, there are still a few kinks to work out with the pattern so I’m calling this a wearable muslin.
Beige light slightly stretchy wool-blend fabric I got ages and ages ago that has been in my stash and begging to be used.
I cut everything on a single layer to squeeze this dress out (see photo).
I originally wanted dainty cap sleeves-not enough fabric!
