I just learned to crochet and this is my first project. Its great to do on the train when commuting!
All three patterns come from mylittlecitygir.com: the sea shells scarf, roses from the rose bud broach and the garden party hat. This site has a number of great patterns for beginners for free and some cool paid patterns too.
Only problem is I had intended to give them to my young god daughter for her birthday (despite being out of season), but as you can see the hat is even too big for me! Guess I got the gauge wrong. I’m going to try to shrink it a bit in the wash and see what happens.
Update: After advice from my mom (they are so wonderful! – she asked to keep the too big version) I made a new hat and fudged the pattern to scale it down to make a better size. It worked pretty good – the hat is smaller! At least, too small for me!

Very beautiful! I am impressed. Could you share with me how you learned to read patterns. I crochet (beginner) but I have yet to learn to read patterns.

I’ll admit I’m not a wizz with the patterns. mylittlecitygirl patterns all come with a diagram which was INVALUABLE! I did much better with the diagram then with the ‘secret code’ of crochet. But then, putting the two together really helped too.
I have been put off a lot of free patterns by the depth of code breaking required haha.

This is your first project?!! Well done! The set is gorgeous! Be careful with shrinking the hat. If it is not pure wool it will slack.

Thanks for the advice Sewella – since you mentioned this I also asked my mom what she thought and she convinced me to make a new hat – and its a much better result!
