Description

This skirt was made as part of a Circle Skirt Sew-Along I hosted recently. We went through how to take measurements, draft a custom pattern, sew it up and finish it.

The second circle skirt I made was what I like to call my Winter Nights Skirt. The fabric is a curious sortsimilar in weight to taffeta and has a woven, slightly plush pattern. Surprisingly it was in the outerwear section of the fabric store, but reminded me of the fabric used in a 1950s vintage circle skirt I have (but can only wear once-in-a-blue moon as it has a tiny waist!). This was a far more simple skirt than the previous one, as I wanted to let the fabric speak for itself (though yes, I was tempted to add beads scattered across the skirtI may eventually!). I used horsehair braid around the hem and really love how it added body and bounce, without having to wear a petticoat. This is probably one that will get a lot of wear this winter, since it looks just as at-home with my striped tshirts as cashmere sweaters!

I fell in love with this skirt when I saw it on your blog Casey! A week later I found the fabric at one of my regular fabric haunts. I think I may steal this idea and make a red and a black version. Lucky we live half way around the world from each other huh? :-P

Such a gorgeous outfit. Surprisingly the stripes work great with the floral fabric.

i agree – of course the skirt could easily be dressed up for a black tie event, but with the casual shirt it looks both comfy and classy.

This is gorgeous! And it seems like a somewhat different look for you (you always look gorgeous, but I think the stripes are just so striking paired with the skirt). Love it.

Beautiful, beautiful! The horsehair was such a good idea to use. It gives the skirt this gorgeous bell like silhouette, without making it look overstuffed. I have the same fabric waiting to become something! Saw it at Jo-Ann and had to have it. It really does have this vintage vibe:)

Oh Casey, this skirt really is something else! I loved it the moment I saw it. This fabric is superb. And I love the fact that you’re wearing stripes with a patterned skirt. I’ve begun trying that sort of thing myself and have been having such fun! Anyway, great job – once again!
