For this winter, I wanted to make a coat designed from scratch. Because it was the first coat I ever made, I worked on it in my once a week sewing class. The coat is fully lined and has a deep pleat at the back. The flaps on the hips are cut on the body piece and cover functional pockets. I ended up not making the band on the front, because I thought it looked better without it. I learned a lot and I am pleased with the shape, however the fabric is a worse quality thatn I thought it would be. Because of that, the coat is not very warm and creases easily.
synthetic coat fabric, lining fabric, zipper, snaps, iron on interfacing for coats

I think this coat is fabulous. The silhouette is stunning, and the color is wonderful. I’m sorry the coat isn’t as warm as you’d hoped, but at least now you have a pattern from which to sew one with high-quality, warm fabric. Save this one for spring :)

I love it. It’s so cool that you made this coat from scratch. I bought two coat fabrics and have not picked the patterns yet but now you inspired me to make them from scratch too.
