Description

Wilma Flintstone was the first and only thing that came to mind when I bought this cotton, so the resulting garment had to be equally as Bedrock. Simplicity 2250 by Cynthia Rowley has a bit of the same retro flare as Mrs. Flintstone.

I loved the idea of keeping it strapless, but the top folds too easily from the gather in the center, even though it’s reinforced with two layers of interfacing. Eliminating that gather messes with the neckline, so I decided to make it a convertible(ish) halter.

It does really need more structure, so I think I’ll end up adding boning at the side seams.

Wow, I’m halfway through my version and this is very inspiring. I though all those darts and pleats would drive me insane but I’m proceeding slowly and reading instructions thoroughly. Lovely choice of fabric!

I’ve just ordered this pattern so its nice to see someone else make it. Yours turned out beautifully! Let me know if you manage to make it permanently strapless: I’d like to give it a try.

Love it! I’m glad you mentioned how large it runs… I have this pattern too (and a small bust) so I will likely have to make a size smaller. Yours looks great – such a fun print!

I’m so glad I found someone that has made this pattern! I was looking at it earlier today, in fact, wondering if that tie on the back could be easily eliminated from the design. I love the front of the bodice, not so much the back! Is that tie functional, or can it be omitted without serious consequences? Your version is TOO cute, so I may end up grabbing the pattern anyway :)

Hi & thanks for the compliment! The ties are functional, but not totally necessary. They close the gathered portion with elastic in it. If leaving them out, I would install the zipper a little higher and add a hook & eye. I would definitely recommend making a bodice muslin first on this one. You should make it!

Beautiful! The draping on the bodice is lovely and the fabric is so dainty.

Your pleats look really good. I had a hard time adjusting mine to fit a small bust, and I ended up interfacing the crap out of it too!!

AH that would be a giant pain to adjust all those pleats and darts! You got skillz. Can’t wait to see it!
