Description

The fabric I used for this jacket was initially intended for pants, but when I asked my teacher, she said it was too thick, so she came up with the idea of this jacket and explained me how to draft the pattern. It is the very basic bodice, sliced open around the neck with rays, and then widened of about 1.5 cm each in a long diamond shape. The widest part of the diamond is where the neck line starts.

The sleeves have 3 rays too, coming down from the shoulder, and the length and shape around the wrist was not a choice, I just didn’t have enough fabric… but I think it looks good anyway.

I am really proud of my new jacket, and I started wearing it as soon as I finished, even if I still haven’t made up my mind about the buttons, so I can’t close it… It also looks good with a belt.

I’ve lined it with cotton because I don’t like shiny slippery lining fabric.

(The pictures are a bit “bleached” but this fabric is so dark and matte that I had to lighten the picture a lot to be able to show you the details).

Material Notes

cotton gabardine lining printed cotton interfacing for the neck

This coat looks fabulous on you. The lining fabric is really striking (I also prefer cotton lining because some satins feel slimey) and I like the darts around the neckline.

If you can’t decide whether to have buttons, maybe you could use large fabric-covered snap-fasteners instead.

:D ahahah!!! It’s because I made the highlight of the picture even lighter in order to see the details in the black, this also erased all the marks and shades on my face, like wrinkles and such. I’ve made countless photos to get nice ones, always running back an forth from my camera to the “set” (I usually crop my head if I don’t like the picture). And yes I was definitely also posing a bit….

I’m impressed. Perfect choice of lining fabric, too. It enhance the japanese style of your jacket. I would keep the front smooth as it is, without visible buttons.
