This is my version of Very Easy Vogue 8615. It was…not very easy. Honestly, between the lining and the zipper and all the hand sewing I ended up doing, it took me about two weeks to make! But I adore it. I love the vintage shape, I love that it has POCKETS (even though you can’t see that in any of the pictures, sorry!) I love the wool from which I made it, I love it. It’s a blessing in disguise that winter continues here in Philadelphia because now I actually have a chance to wear the thing!
. Just a note, for anyone who is making it, you need WAY less fabric then the recommended amounts. I made version B, with a shorter hemline and three quarter length sleeves, and I have a ton of fabric left. Vogue is tricky this way. Don’t trust them!
I lined the hem with lace (Thank you, sewaholic.com!). I love the fit, I love that you can cut out the bodice truest to your cup size. When I made the muslin for the bodice it was perfect, no alterations needed. Delightful! I think this style is extremely flattering, and really pretty Mad Men. I’m thinking specifically of Helen Bishop, circa season one. She totally would have worn this to a Kennedy rally and then come home to find her creepy son Glen stroking Betty Draper’s hair lovingly. Ah, creepy Glen. What a guy.
