Today we’re featuring our own version of burda style magazine’s white button-down dress. The original design is tre cool as is— but we made this project easier (yay!) by eliminating the buttons, leaving out the front bodice pin-tucks and shortening the sleeves. Instead of sewing multiple pin-tucks in a non-textured fabric, we chose a white Swiss voile that has a striped pattern woven into it all over.
Cinched with a belt the look is complete and ready for fashion week. Wear it with tights when the weather gets cooler, or try it with high boots in the Fall.

I like it. It’s simple and vintage. I like it more than I like the original version. : )

love it, and have a number of 40’s house dresses called “step and go” with a big zipper down the front. I’ve been looking for a modern pattern for one, this fits the bill but won’t work because of sizing. I wish both the magzine and the website would create patterns in ALL sizes not just 6-8-10.

Now that is interesting— I didn’t realize zippers were used this way in the 40s. Here’s a tutorial on grading BurdaStyle patterns to larger sizes. BurdaStyle has a few plus-size patterns (as does burda style magazine occasionally) see here.

Great look. I love this idea of doing remakes of the magazine patterns, very interesting to see the BurdaStyle take on the mag. This dress is great, love the original pattern but also love the exposed zipper. Looks much easier to put together too.

It’s a nice dress but I wonder how it would have looked with long sleeves for cooler weather? I didn’t see it in the magazine. I think it would be nicer.

The photo from the magazine (and the pattern link) is at the top right corner of this page— you can see the long sleeved version there, the dress looks quite nice with long sleeves too.

I was thinking the other day I really hate the look, I htink it ruins a beautiful outfit or dress. Especially contrastic colours. Too heavy and harsh.

Love love love it.. I’ve got a copy of the magazine at home.. I have to go throught it again..
For some reason I still can’t see al the pictures/ patterns on the site. When I click on the burdamagzine link, I get a blank page. Any advise on this?

Oh, I really like this version! It’s so helpful to be able to see more pictures of the garment too… the magazine only has one shot so it’s hard to see the details.
