I had actually started making this anrkali dress, as they call it, a while ago, like in Feb 2012, but dint finish it until now coz my mom kept reminding me about everytime i visited her. I wore it for an engagement ceremony after which i took these pictures.
The kurta/tunic white fabric with black designs is tussar silk, the duppatta(scarf/shawl) is black chiffon with maroon zig zag designs printed on it. the leggings are cotton with the same zig zag designs. The maroon fabric on the yoke, which is one piece is cut on bias and has hand painted gold spirals n other designs on it. The gold spirals around the hem is also hand painted. My cousin and sister-in-law helped me in painting it.
The kurta/tunic is made with seven pieces in the back n seven pieces in the front starting from below the yoke. It is fully lined with pre-washed white cotton material.White Invisible zipper at the back between the 3rd and 4th pieces. the leggings are cut on bias.
The design in the front is made by using a technique i learnt very early in my life, winding threads on the bobbin n stitching on the reverse. I like the result.

The combination of different fabrics is nice. With the gold hand paint you put a very personal touch. I like it.

I absolutely love this whole outfit. You have made it beautifully and looks so good on you. I also like the sewing techniques you have used for the front piece by winding different threads on the bobbin. I learnt that years ago and have forgotten about it so thanks for sharing that information.
