We’re approaching the end of our summer in the southern hemisphere, but I thought I’d make the most of what’s left to make and wear pretty summer frocks. This one is made from a vintage pattern, the View A to be precise. I got it off Trademe and tested out in mint green dupion silk (more on that later!).
The only real change I made to the pattern in the end was to replace the zipper opening with a facing and button closure, and I took some fullness out of the skirt – not by choice, I just ran out of fabric! Don’t you hate it what that happens?
Blogged about it here:

Wow, that’s a beautiful dress!!!! I absolutely love lace and all sheers, in fact. ;-) Yours looks so precious!!! You did a wonderful job!!! May I ask a question, though? What do you do with it being transparent? I am planning to make a dress out of the snake-print netting I used for my three-piece suit, but I am still undecided whether to go with an underlayer in a thicker fabric or a separate (tube, maybe?) dress that I could wear even without the dress out of netting. What do you do with yours?

For this one I am actually wearing a skin coloured slip underneath, but normally I line the body at least, or make a separate under-dress. It’s up to you really – making a separate under-dress means you can wear it with lots of other things and not have to line them.

Thank you for the explanation. I think I will stick to the unlined version (seeing yours being so “fluffy”! :-)) and just make a separate dress for underneath. Although an idea with a slip is nice too…
