Description

I have perfected the Sorbetto to fit me at long last and this is my latest version which I love, mainly due to the fabric. I used a fine white linen to make the bias edging and bow.

Material Notes

Broderie Anglais cotton from The Fabric Store in Brisbane.

Thank-you for your sweet comments. My projects are not necessarily sophisticated but more of a reflection of my age. After looking at your blog which is so interesting, I realize I am probably the same age as your Mum. I really admire how you and a lot of other young ones are into refashioning second hand clothes and that is something I struggle with. I guess I had so many second hand clothes as a child, I don’t want them now that I can afford to buy lovely fabric and sew something new for myself. I really like your craft items and tutorials which is such a generous thing to do for those learning to do something creative. I think I will have to start sharing my experiences in sewing and craft too and may have to start a blog myself. Now that will be a huge challenge for me as computer skills are not my strength!!

Thank-you. It is a while since I made this Sorbetto and I have had a lot of wear from it. If you are thinking of making this top, it is well worth the effort to make it fit your body shape. It is such a useful pattern to use up leftover fabric or pieces from the bargain bin at the fabric shops.

I just see that you made the Sorbetto! Wow, this is absolutely lovely as well – I love your fabric choice, it’s beautiful! Did you need to adjust the darts at all, as with the Jasmine blouse? I need to tinker with the Sorbetto pattern some more so I can try and make one… I keep seeing so many lovely variations! :-)

Thank-you again julib. I have made heaps of adjustments to this pattern and I have now got it right for my body which is great as I live in a hot humid climate and this top is so cool to wear. I reduced the shoulder seam line by 1" (front and back) thus lifting the darts up and then moved the darts up another 1" and because of that, I had to add 2" to the hem line. May sound weird but it works and I now have quite a few sorbettos in my wardrobe.

That broderie anglaise is by far the nicest I’ve ever seen. Glad to hear you’ve got the sorbetto down pat – I can’t seem to get it right! C’est la vie :)

Thanks Poppy, coming from you the engineer of civil and sewing works, I am flattered. Now that I have got it right for my body shape,I have several more cut out ready to sew. They are the perfect top for Brisbane weather, plus they need very little fabric.

Thank-you my friend, and yes I do try hard to match patterns, especially stripes and checks. It wasn’t too hard on this top as the pattern of the fabric was the exact measurement on the paper pattern.

That is so kind of you Vanessa. Now that I have perfected the fit of the Sorbetto pattern for my body shape, I look at all remnants now and wonder if it will be suitable for yet another Sorbetto. So when I found this broderie anglais in the remnant bin at The Fabric Store, I knew immediately what would become of it. They are so cool and comfortable to wear.

This fabric really needed a simple pattern and the Sorbetto is great for such a fabric, plus you don’t need a lot of fabric for a Sorbetto.
