I made these PJ pants for my daughter from the pants pattern (with an added back pocket) included in the same pattern pack as the top and dress. I thought it would be fun to make a little pillow to coordinate with her PJs. The owl pillow is my first completely original creations. I just used scrapes from my stash and came up with this. I would make a couple of changes but she still turned out quite cute.
The elastic waist band was quite a chore, though it may have just been first attempt frustrations. One question though, is there some sort of tool that I don’t know about to pull the elastic through the casing? It can’t have to be as difficult as it was.
Pants: Cotton flannel, 3/4" elastic, grosgrain ribbon Owl pillow: Fleece, cotton flannel, felt, and polyfil

Really cute. There is an item it’s called a “Bodkin” and you can get them in the notions section of any fabric / craft store relatively cheap. Hope this helps with the elastic crisis.

It seems like there should be some sort of contraption that hooks to the elastic that is longer than a safety pin or bobby pin. I think that would be SO helpful. Hmmm, maybe I should invent one and make millions ;).

Love the set and your owl, it’s a HOOT! (I couldn’t help myself) I have to agree with MAlndrich, I secure a safety pin at one end to the elastic and push is through the casing.

Cute pillow! Most people stick a safety pin through the elastic and drag it through the casing. I’ve lost all my safety pins so I’ve been puncturing my elastic with a bobby pin and pulling it through in the same way. It’s a lot easier with something firm to grab onto inside the casing. Good job sticking with it though, these are super cute!
