This one-off couture gown was made for my client who was married in September 2009. It consists of a steel boned corset made of ivory silk with a dark red lace overlay and a full ivory tulle skirt, worn over a large hoop petticoat. I also made a shorter version of the tulle skirt for her to wear for the first dance. This was worn over an ivory 50s style petticoat with red trim. I made her fascinator, earrings, birdcage veil and the heart brooch on the corset to complete the whole outfit.
Corset – Ivory silk satin, ivory silk lining, calico interlining, spiral and straight steel boning, red lace.
Skirts – Ivory satin with multiple layers of ivory tulle.
Petticoats – bought

hi, how did you sew the lace overlay onto the other fabric. im making a formal dress.and the front panel of the bodice is going to have a lace overlay. i pinned around the edge and sewed the 2 pieces together so i could use it as just one piece. but the satin and the lace sewn together bubbled and didnt sew flat. did you use a tear away or interfacing underneath yours? or pin it all over? email me please spiffalici0us@hotmail.com thankyou

well, this is hard core gorgeous! was it her second marriage? because there is a tradition (maybe in russia? not shure.), that if it’s brid’s not-first marriage, she wears red.

Oh My Goodness!!!! I love it. I want one for my wedding (when I get married several years down the road) How many yards or tulle did you use for the longer skirt? Once again this dress is AMAZING!!!!!!!! God bless, :)

Thanks. There was about 40m of tulle in 3 different layers to get the fullness :)

Lots and lots of practice and experimenting. I made my first corset in 1995 and it was terrible! I just kept changing the pattern and sewing for friends to learn how to fit properly.
