Burda Style For people who sew

My sister-in-law asked me to try my hand at making her wedding dress when, after weeks and weeks of searching, she couldn’t find the perfect dress. We went back and forth many times and after 4 months, 5 mock-ups and too many sketches to count, we landed on what was soon to be her dream dress. I let her pick out the fabric – 100% silk crepe de chine and she wanted an off white color since she has such a pale complexion. Never before did I know just how many colors of white there actually are! All in all, the wedding was fantastic and the dress held up— she looked gorgeous, and that was all I could have asked for.
All fabric was dyed a light shade of ecru. The bodice was draped and hand stitched to keep the pleats in place. An extra piece of gather habotai was used under the skirt to add some fullness. Hems were rolled up twice then hand stitched. A tiny antique lace belt was sewn on at the waist as well.
