I made this coat to wear over a gown with a small sweep train. The concealed button front keeps the closure from interfering with the details of the dress. I drafted a pattern for a jacket and lengthened it into a full length a-line adding about 2 inches of walking ease in the front . For the train in the back I just added both length and some width to cover the train and sweep the floor. The concealed button front is just added to the center front and folded over and topstitched. After I made the buttonholes, I did tack the top placket to the underneath placket that contains the buttonholes so it wouldn’t flap open and show the buttons.
