Burda Style For people who sew

Description

for this project, i decided to do what i do best: play with contrasts. i wanted to reinvent a very light and old-world item into something more new aged. hence i used thicker organza of a light silver colour and made the silhouette boxier, as well as slant the vest hem downwards, to achieve a more futuristic look.

i found some beautiful buttons which i used. they were originally from the 1940s and i found them in a little cosy shop tucked away.

i know that normally it would be buttons on one side and the buttons holes on the other. but i thought i’d be a bit more creative. besides, the vest looks absolutely ill-fitted when buttoned up. but when left to hang, i think it looks quite good. :)

i used a very complicated way of joining the pieces together. by sandwiching the bias tape in between the seams and then sewing it down again, i achieved such a stunning couture effect i never knew would work. i spent two days staring into space trying to imagine how i could achieve this effect when it just popped right into my head! :D

the pattern was adapted from burda, and severely modified.
