I whipped this dress up in a couple of hours – it was very easy to make! I have the reproduction pattern so it has the various sizes on the pattern pieces, which was useful for me, as I have a pear-shaped body. I was able to cut the bust to one size, and then the waist and hips in a larger size.
There has been a lot of hating towards this pattern, the general consensus online seems to be that it has no shape and looks like a large apron/hospital gown. I totally disagree. I think (for my shape at least) that it turned out to be super cute and is a perfect dress for our warm Australian summers. I do think though that the success of the dress relies on good fabric pattern choice, and the correct contrast bias binding – otherwise I do see how it could end up looking like the wearer was disappearing beneath 4 meters of fabric!
I wore this dress out today, visiting a cafe and doing a bit of shopping, and three people complimented me on the dress! That never happens when I wear the clothes I make – so for me this dress was a success :-)

Thanks for your honest comments. I have had this pattern for ages and moved it off my to-sew list after reading all of the hate on-line but I always thought it would look good on my curves…I think I’ll start looking for the perfect fabric again ;) Beautiful job and great colour combo xx

You’re welcome. Be warned though, this fabric uses 4 yards of fabric – so hunt for something on sale :-)

I just bought this pattern for my sister-in-law’s bridesmaid dress! We’ll be making it out of eggplant satin and modifying it a bit as she’ll be 7mo pregnant by the time of the wedding :) Thanks for posting your version—isn’t it so adorbs!

That sounds fantastic! I am sure she will look great in it, and eggplant is such a nice colour :-)

Im right in the middle of making this dress myself, personally I love it, is is so easy to sew and a bit of a boost to the confidence for a novice like me to create something that is so flattering, at least for my body type. I just need to add my binding and I am done and after seeing your version of it I am inspired and I will certainly make time to do it this weekend

I’m so excited you’re making one too. It is a very cool pattern and reasonably quick to sew. I found the binding a bit fiddly but the end result is definitely worth it. Good luck making your dress! Sam xox
