This project is based on this pattern on MakeMyPattern.com and I think I’m the first on to try it.
Apart from that, this is the first time I’m putting lining in a garment and boy do I need some practice with that :)
I made a mistake in cutting out the darts without added seam allowance. I realised my mistake later and tried to make up for it by keeping the seam allowance to a minimum, but it would still be better with a bit more ease.
In general, since this was my first time and there’s not instructions for this pattern (yet) I’m moderately happy with the results.
Cotton outside. Some of that silky wrinkly lining stuff inside.

Hey you ;)
Great craftmanship! But as you know that I am always the witch in fairytales and as I know that you are learning pattern making, I would like to give some advices for your next project ;)
The chest dart has just one single task in mens garments. It should bring space into the chest area. It is not there to fit the waist. A dart brings always space behind!!! his end point. So clearly to see, the end of that dart has to end 5cm under!!! the chest. Here you brought space into the shoulder area.
If you want to archiev a nice waist fitted waistcoat, you have to get the waistpoint of the side seam very near to your waist but then, the clou is do widen up the chest and hip point on the side seam. Of course, these points won’t touch our natural body but bring a very clean and nice fitted look.
And I would just sew an the buttons with a little bit more space between fabric and button so that they don’t bulk by closing the waistcoat.
Just my two cents ;-)
So long Basti :-)

Awesome feedback man, thanks so much :)
I copied this pattern exactly as it is from the book. I am not entirely happy about it myself ;) Your tips will be a great help to try improve on it! (and I will).
But I think I’m going to do some trousers first :)

So what you’re saying is “you look like and idiot, but it suits you” ;)
Thanks girl. Really appreciate if from such a style icon as yourself.

Don’t put words to my mouth! Many guys look ridiculous even in a simple suit, not to mention a waistcoat! So what I am really saying is that it takes a man to wear something like this and NOT to look like an idiot.

Hey I was only joking, sorry if that wasn’t clear. I did put a smiley ;)
But you say the nicest things, so maybe I should confuse you some more :)
Sep 18, 2012, 02.06 PMby zoaki
Haha, I was staring at that smiley, but decided to make myself clear.
It is easy to confuse people in writing, there is no intonation, so I am careful about these things :)

I agree, it’s easy to get the wires crossed in writing. Actually, as I re-read my initial answer, I can see how one could misread it as sarcasm. (the part about you being a style icon).
The truth is that I am really a huge fan of yours ever since I recently discovered you, your work and your blog :)

Well, that style icon thing was what made me doubt the smiley as well. Maybe it shows my personal insecurity :) but coming from a person who makes his own jeans while I just sew up a few dresses… you know, too good to be true.
I appreciate the last comment though, I really hope you are not trying to get me more confused :D

Looks good. I guess we all learn from the little errors we make whilst trying something new in sewing. Nice fabric.:-D

Merci Antony :)
Le patron est avec les pinces. Je pense qu’il y a toujours des pinces dans un truq pareil, non?
Certainement, prochaine fois je vais essayer de faire mieux ;)
