Burda 9/2009, pattern 130
For my first “real” project in about 10 years, I thought that I would try a pattern that looked like it wouldn’t be too much like hard work, yet still something that I would wear.
I was completely unable to find any iron-on Vilene bias tape, so I just left this out altogether. It was good fun to make, with a few hiccups on the way (such as cutting one of the front pieces with the diagonal grain going the wrong way…). More of a project to get back into real sewing really, and it’s worked! I wear my waistcoat in public, so something must have gone right somewhere!
P.S. The front braid doesn’t look parallel to the edge of the front pieces – I can assure you that the amount of concentration I put into that means that it is! I think the way I’m standing makes the fabric fold a little here…
Wool mix, lining, fastening frogs (courtesy of ebay), tubular braid.

Very pretty vest! I am leery of wearing them, because of my bust, but I might try one… ;-)

You should definitely try, maybe play around with the darts and start off with making it a size bigger? Thank you for your nice comment too!
