I made this skirt from some fabric my grandmother gave me. I tend to make a lot of skirts from rectangles, and this was another one of those (see the “sketch”). I find ‘rectangle’ skirts can turn out pretty full since they’re gathered, but they’re easy to make and don’t really require patterns, just a few measurements. Plus, they minimize fabric waste :]
This skirt is elasticized in the back waistband, the ties can tie in the front or back, and I added inseam pockets made from an old pair of boxers (they are quite nice and satiny haha). And ok I cheated, I used the selvage as the hem but shh no one has to know!
a woven cotton of sorts

your work is fantastic! how much fabric did you use for the main part of the skirt?

Thank you! :) Sorry this is so late, but i had about a yard and a half of fabric available, and the main part of the skirt ended up being two ~16" by 40" panels. Since the back isn’t pleated but elasticized, and the front waistband is a little long, it’s very full in the back. retrospectively, i would have used less fabric for the back so it would be less bulky underneath the ties [sorry if that was really confusing!!]

Super cute skirt. I like it better without the blazer. I think its adorable with the tie in the back.

Wow, so many nice touches! I love that it has pockets and an elasticized back waist. Having just made a pair of corduroy pants from my grandmother’s old fabric, I am of course a fan of your fabric source as well.

Thank you! Your Traveling Pants look great- I have yet to muster up the courage to construct a pair of pants, but yours are inspiring, they look so professionally finished! :]
