Retro-style dress made unique with funky gathering. You can read all about it on my blog Jorth!
Also, for those who wanted to know about the gathering, I made the skirt with a full skirt. Once the dress was fully completed, I gathered up sections of fabric to create fanned folds, then sewed these together on the wrong side, so no stitching could be seen on the right side. Using this method means that you may end up stitching through three or four layers of fabric. I did this in random places until I felt the skirt looked ‘right’.

This is really gorgeous! I love all the folding, and how the busy-ness of the skirt part balances out the simpler more tailored top part. Swanky Melbourne Cup do?!

Gorgeous dress! How did you do the gathering to make it look like that? I have some vague ideas, but I am curious about your technique because it looks amazing!

Hey Darl – love the dress – in fact loved it so much I Googled the Vogue pattern number which lead me to your review on sewing.patternreview. Sleeves can be a real pain in the neck/arm. You did well to persevere with it – and I love what you have down with the full skirt. I agree with you – it is rather spiffy! It is just gorgeous.
PS – thanks for the tip re reducing arm fullness on the cap. I HATE putting sleeves in – my last effort was a 3 day, 4 attempt drama! I think you are right – tight weave fabrics with no give can be the death of you with this. I ended up having to do 3 rows of ease stitch to get it in….
