When there is a big gathering (party, funeral, wedding, etc.) here in Benin the thing to do is to buy the same fabric and get matching outfits made. Which is why I decided to make the Colette Peony featuring this wavy Vlisco print for the retirement party of the principal at the school where I volunteer at. It’s a way of showing solidarity with the hosts – and fun as well to be matchy matchy with everybody else!
I wrote more in my sewing journal here: http://cathywu.com/journal/treadling/2013/07/22/colette-peony-matching-vlisco-fabric-la-fte/
