Shell: Anything that isn’t stretchy. Lighter denim, narrow-wale corduroy, wool-like blends, etc. Keep in mind: you’re sewing for a child. Go for washability. Vintage, doubleknit polyester would be super cool, as would a thicker lace or eyelet. Lining: Again, washability. Try a lightweight cotton or nylon (not rayon) lining fabric. Think about a cute contrasting color or print. Matching’s for nerds. One yard of each is plenty. You’ll also need four snaps (such as hammered or pearl) or four buttons, ½” or smaller.
