Description

My entry is based on the Summer Purse from the Vintage Notions book.

Last summer I was on a mission to make a bag that I could wear around my waist while on my bike, but that I could also wear on my shoulder so as not to have to walk around with a hip sack when I arrive at my destination. Not my favorite look. But, I didn’t come up with anything I loved. Inspired by the name of this pattern, last summer’s failed quest, and this awesome retro bike fabric, I decided to give it another go. And I love it.

My changes:
I used Stiffy instead of buckram; I added a zip pocket to the flap for quick cell phone access; I added a detachable, adjustable strap which can be worn around the waist/hips while riding; I added belt loops with snaps so it can also be worn on a belt with the strap detached & stashed inside; I also put D-rings on the belt loops so the strap can be clipped on and off; Because of the outside zip pocket, I skipped the inside patch pocket

Material Notes

Organic cotton purchased last summer and hoarded until the perfect project came along

      Thanks! The fabric was a fat quarter bundle. I don’t usually buy fabric this way, but it was perfect for this project because I got to use all of the fabrics from the pack. I love that the bike print uses the least fabric but is still the focal point, so I have plenty left over for another project.

      Thank you thank you! I’ll confess to being a little anal, but it’s not perfect – I’m a strategic photo cropper as well as an anal sewer

      Edit: My husband just pointed out the hilarity of “anal sewer.” I’m hilarious even when I’m not trying ;)

      Thanks! When I cut the pattern I thought it was going to be too small, but it’s really the perfect size for riding. I think next time I’ll put the belt loops closer to the side edges, but other than that she test rides great!
