I chose the vintage Slip-On Jumper Dress for my inspiration! As soon as I printed the page with the pattern, it hit me as to what I needed to do:) I love Dior’s ‘New Look’. He was my inspiration for this outfit. I have always admired his defining waistline and flared skirts or peplums and the femine look he created.
I followed the exact directions for measuring my body and transferred all of the markings to musllin first, adding 6" to the bottom measurments. I then cut both the front and back pieces at 4 " below the hip measurements.I prettty much followed the pattern but used inverted pleats on the top at the wasitline instead of a belt. I also chose to use buttons instead of a front seam and I went without the sleeve so the jacket had to be lined.
As for the bottom of the pattern, I reversed the ‘skirt’ and used the seam up the back with an invisible zipper and used pleats along the front of the skirt (as I did in the Jacket) as well as darts for a fitted design. I did use an interfacing to stabilize the waist and I lined the skirt as well for comfort.
I enjoyed this project as it allowed me to use a very simple pattern and turn it into a very modern design including my favorite come-back the peplum hem! With the fitted and slightly shorter cut jacket lining, I was able to give the peplum a bit of flounce, yet I used vintage buttons and a lace cami to keep to a ‘vintage age’ look. I was thrilled to add a waist defining midsection and will definitely be making more variations of this design. Next a flat A-frame peplum and skirt just like Dior’s 1947 "New look’ suit. Can’t wait to get started!!
