Description

I started with the August Kimono Magic Pattern from the Vintage Notions book. However, I shortened the pattern considerably, took in the sides to add a bit of shape, left out the tucks, but instead added some darting as well for some additional shaping. I also added some cotton lace trim, and fastened the dress with snaps. I also made the obi-style belt to keep with the kimono styling – it’s a rectangle of satin fabric, interfaced with some heavy-weight interfacing. There are two ribbons which wrap around to tie. Since the housedress in many respects evolved from the dressing gown, I felt this was a good evolution and modernization for this pattern!

Dress fabric is Lake Hollywood Lawn – Regent Peacock
The black satin for the belt is a heavyweight black satin, and the ribbon ties are double faced satin ribbon.

Material Notes

Dress fabric is “Lake Hollywood Lawn – Regent Peacock” by Alexander Henry.
The black satin for the belt is a heavyweight black satin, and the ribbon ties are double faced satin ribbon.

I like it, simple but striking.
