This is a dress I made using a vintage pattern and some vintage material. The fabric is heavy weight, think it’s upholstery fabric really, my dad says it looks like I’ve torn down the curtains and made it, hence the project name.
I used a maudella pattern for the bodice and a pattern made by my nan for the circle skirt.
I had to add two pleats to the neckline as both the neckline and the arm holes tended to ‘gape’ without it.
I’m pretty happy with it.
Due to the weight of the fabric i didn’t want to line it so I have just used ready made bias binding tape around the raw edges of the neck and arm holes. It’s a cute cotton one with flowers (look at last photo).
I made it really just to test the pattern for sizing as my partner’s father had given me a full roll of this fabric he’d found on his travels and had got for free, the pattern of the fabric is growing on he though and I guess it’s pretty much the same as the flowery patterns that are in all the shops at the moment, looks like i’m being on-trend by accident. hehe
vintage heavy weight upholstery fabric, zipper, bias binding.
