I so loved working on this dress. It took a good few weeks, on and off, but I really took my time to construct it as well as I could. The fabric is a poly/cotton mix I think, with a cotton velvet collar… which isn’t as detachable as the pattern made out! The ‘vestee’ attaches to the bodice with a couple of snap fasteners and there is a side zipper. Its fully lined with facing and vestee edges, bound with bias trim. I wore it for the first time today and although its a little snug, it feels very special.
I love the challenge of a vintage pattern. My confidence grows with every garment I make and I love that I can end up with a garment that is both classic and original and a fraction of the price of any modern designer dress.

What a delicious dress! I love the contrasting collar and how well you matched your plaid. Beautifully done! PS. Where on earth did you find those creeper-wedges?!

That really is a special dress. And you’ve matched the plaid perfectly – your sewing skills are obvious!

Thank you. It wasn’t too long ago when I was thinking the same. But its really not that complicated. More time-consuming. So patience is definitely required…but it does help when the instructions are really clear! Always a good idea to make a muslin first!

Oh thank you so much Ralf. I do feel good wearing it. The velvet was a spontaneous decision and I wasn’t sure if it was going to be too much until I’d finished. Glad I did!

Thank you Redsonia. I did struggle with the matching and it only really lines up on the side seams but hey, the belt and the collar are good for disguising the squares that don’t match!
