Vintage Silk Pantdress

Added Jan 7, 2010

Copenhagen, Denmark

I’ve always wanted a silk romper because I love silk and rompers :-) I used a Simplicity pattern from the 70’s and kept it intentionally a bit oversized so it would be loose and flowy. I changed the sleeves though, the original plain ones just made the entire thing look a bit ‘square’.

Material Notes

Silk, zipper

It looks great…. my cousin asked me how difficult it would be to make one of these – not too hard as we were going to make it strapless and I’m mock it up without a pattern. Now I soooo must have this pattern! How did you make the flowy sleeves?

It’s veeery easy to make. I bought the pattern on a site called, they have lots to choose from. The sleeves I made according to the same principle as a circle skirt; so you cut out two sort of half-moons and once you attach that rounded edge to the straight armhole edge you get that billowy ruffle-type effect. Sorry am very bad at explaining this :-(

so cute!! i always forget about looking up vintage patterns to sew some of my inspirations. i do agree that the original sleeves would have looked square. i like your variation. very flowy and appropriate for the silk fabric and its flower design. beautiful job!!!

Beautiful. The fabric is so pretty and the sleeves suit it so well. Which pattern did you use?
