I chose to use the nightgown pattern from Amy Brickman’s Vintage Notions, but adapt it for a little girl as I no longer have the figure for that styles! I was also inspired by the waist detail of slip 2 on page 46 of Vintage Notions. I loved the way the gathered skirt doesn’t go all the way around, but is still cut in one piece with the bodice. In fact, this whole dress has only four pattern pieces: dress front (including front skirt), bodice back, skirt back and pockets. The sleeves are cut in one with the bodice, the way the nightgown pattern does it. The waist band is cut from bias tape (and lined on the inside with the same.) The flowers were appliqued bias tape (another idea from Vintage Notions, and one I’ll use for other things.) The dress has a keyhole opening at the back which fastens with a button and loop, to make it easy to slip over the head.
