Beautiful fun vintage dress great for making a statement. I wanted to create something I could wear for a swing dancing performance. I had leopard print fabric and red felted wool. I underlined the bodice front and back with the leopard print fabric because the wool would be too thin and not sturdy enough. I used the pattern Butterick B4790 but instead of using snaps at the front I put in velcro. At first I had sewn in the snaps but they were too weak and kept unsnapping. I’m wearing this dress to dance in and certainly did not want it to come undone during a move.

Hey this is really good, I’ve made this one and it was a fun pattern to make however the material I used was a little too heavy and the armholes gape too much so I don’t wear it much. Unfortunately, because the amount of material it used was phenomenal. Anyway. Good job to you.

Yes, I could see that being a problem with this design… but thank you for the compliment :)

Wow. I helped a client make the same dress as a costume for a church Xmas play. Her dress was changed into a floor length version using a red and gold brocade for the back and skirt portion. For the front and trim we used a gorgeous gold satin and increased the trim width to 2 inches. Your version is darling and looks great in your fabric choices. I never thought I would see this dress again. Dance away my friend!

I don’t normally like animal prints, but this is gorgeous… I think the red details really give it a lift and a fantastic retro feel. I’m sure you’ll look fantastic in it!
