Description

This jacket belongs with the wiggle dress I made earlier – Simplicity 3425 (see http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/wiggle-dress-ca-1960-simplicity-3425).

I used a checked cotton from 1988 with a lovely sheen and crispness about it and hand finished the jacket with a mid weight dark purple lining. The sleeves end just above the elbow, the pattern does not call for any buttons and I didn’t add the pockets because the patterned fabric provides plenty of detail.

Would be a good first jacket for a novice with a few simple garments under their belt.

I will be making more of these in silk, brocade, linen…

Material Notes

approx. 1m50 cotton (because of nap), 1m satin lining, thread.

Lovely jacket!! Love the fabric. Can I just ask, what do you intend to wear with it? I really want to make a similar jacket but I cannot for the life of me figure out what to put on the bottom and underneath. A high-waisted pencil skirt??

      Thanks for the compliment!
I’m planning to make the dress that goes with the jacket in a nice cerise to match the stripes on the jacket. You could certainly wear it with a fab pencil skirt too indeed, with a tight-ish knit underneath or a sleeveless blouse, you know, one of those that buttons up the back.
This is the dress, by the way, not the best choice of fabric as I found when it was finished: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/wiggle-dress-ca-1960-simplicity-3425

That is a beautiful fabric, indeed! I love the colours! You’ve given that item such a modern classy feel. It reminds me a bit of Steven Alan’s short jackets. Great sleeve length and collar.
