My first foray into a stack of vintage patterns I’ve been collecting.
I picked up this 1960 Vogue pattern for $2 at an antique mall in Idaho. A friend gave me the rayon. I wasn’t sure what to do with the fabric (it’s so crazy!), but I really like it with this pattern! I love mixing vintage patterns with modern prints.
I added a lapped zipper on the side (my first, and I think I’ll do it with all of my dresses from now on—I like the look much more than an invisible zipper).
And I love the back…
Addendum: I added a few more pictures here to show some of my finishing techniques. I still need practice on making a lapped zipper, as you’ll see:) I also used bias tape to finish the seam edges at the waist, and to hem the skirt. I like this method, particularly because it keeps loose strings tidy and hidden.
I used a Threads tutorial to learn how to do the lapped zipper:

I may add more details on my newborn blog (really, it is newborn, just one post!):

Hi Oonaballoona,
Thanks! I added some more pictures, although my lapped zipper is not really perfected! If you’re interested check out Thread’s tutorial:
