Description

A creative, art-to-wear shirt or jacket! This beautiful top starts with a linen or denim shirt which was dismantled and remade to incorporate creatively placed swaths of vintage barkcloth.
I loved the color of this shirt with this piece of vintage barkcloth.

I draped a panel of the barkcloth diagonally across the front, leaving the collar intact. The bark cloth panel is darted to fit and flatter. The remainder of the shirt front was cut away. I also created a bark cloth yoke on the back. Some edges of barkcloth were left unfinished for a bit of fringe texture. The front has a stacked-button closure with a loop of green linen. I used the original bottom edges of the shirt as the new front side edges. The shirt back and sleeves have been cut off and rehemmed. All inside edges are neatly finished with seam binding.

Material Notes

I try to do mostly “green” projects. The shirt was given to me. Vintage barkcloth is one of my favorite fabrics to use—it’s cotton, machine washable, with fabulous colors and patterns.
