This is my second dress using Burda Magazine pattern 6/2011 # 102. I found a remnant of Emanuel Ungaro silk that I loved and there was just enough to make this dress. I did not want to cut this fabric until I had tried this pattern, hence the red linen dress that I made several weeks ago. I did not sew in the side pockets as I didn’t want a bulky look. This dress is cut on the bias and the hem doesn’t really sit properly, even though I hung it for 3 days before hemming. But on the whole, I am really happy with it as it is lovely to wear; is light as a feather and hardly creases and is a dream to wash and iron.
Emanuel Ungaro silk purchased from Gardams Fabrics, Brisbane.

Love the happy, summery vibe. And silk, did you say? That must feel like a million dollars on. And I don’t even notice anything about the hem!

Thank-you, that is very kind of you. But the hem isn’t right and I still haven’t bothered to fix it. Silk is so nice to wear but cotton and linen is cooler.

Thank-you!! It is about 6 weeks ago that I made this dress and I have had lots of pleasure wearing it. The hem still isn’t quite right but I am over that now.

Great cut. Perhaps your hem issues could be solved (for the next silk dress) by doing a rolled overlocker hem, or a baby hem?

Thanks for your comments buzzybee. I think you are right about a baby hem. I don’t think I know how to do a rolled overlocker hem and I should get a lesson on achieving that. I am going to redo the hem and follow some instructions I found in the techniques page which I hope will solve this wongy hem.

Thank-you Patti and it is lovely to see your photo. I can’t remember what 22 degrees is like in Fahrenheit but 22 in Celsius is perfect here. I think we had 27 degrees Celsius for Christmas day which was so nice.
I hope you had a lovely Christmas day and all the very best for 2012.

Thanks laikadoll. My dresses are very conservative compared to yours and that is why I love looking at what you make. Maybe if I was younger I would be a bit more out there. Please keep sewing, you inspire me.

Thanks Irina. Yes, this silk was a bit expensive but because it was a remnant the price was reduced. The weather today for Christmas was perfect in Brisbane and not too hot and humid and no rain as predicted. I can understand you being a bit jealous but sometimes the heat can be a bit much and we wish for English weather. (Usually only for a day or two).
