Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I made this over a year ago, but then I didn’t wear it much and it kind of got lost in my closet. The pattern was a real struggle to fit properly. I must have taken it apart and put it back together at least 4 times, including redoing the collar and reshaping the shoulders Every time I fixed what I thought the problem was, it turned out that something else was wrong. I persevered because I liked the fabric, but in the end I kind of gave up and put the back tie on it because I still couldn’t get the back seams to look right.
Oh well. Good learning experience! And the end product is cute, albeit a bit quirky verging on clown-like. Looks good under a neutral blazer.
If anyone has suggestions for the Ute pattern, please let me know! I was wanting to make the other variation of it, but now I’m too scared to touch the pattern again.

You have done a good job, you can always make it look crisp with a bit of starch spray. Make sure you iron the seams thoroughly, it always looks a millions time better after proper ironing. I am not sure what texture your fabric has, but the polka dots are so cute! I made this top 5 times now (one for myself, the others for the Jubilee), and I find it easier and easier. I have completed the last one in one evening. However, the first one took days! I just did not know how to read the bit with the collar and bending the bias strip. It is a lovely pattern, do not give up!

So cute! I love the fabric, the blue buttons on the cuffs, and the peter pan collar. I think it looks great on you. I’d never guess you had so many issues with it.

I actually think you did a great job and the tie at the back is lovely. Because you are thin, I think an overly fitted look wouldn’t suit as much, the slight gather at the back is far more flattering and lends itself to a more romantic look. Plus you are right, polka dots make everything good :)

Even though this has been a frustrating project for you and at the moment you feel indifferent to your blouse, I do think you will be very happy with it eventually. You have achieved a well fitted blouse that looks really great on you and you have also learnt heaps. The fabric is lovely and I am sure that you will get lots of wear from it. I have a top in my project studio that I hid in my cupboard for over a year and then pulled it out and reworked it. I am now happy with it and enjoy wearing it.

this is a really cute blouse! love the button detail! i’ve found that when i have fitting issues i get frustrated and just have it in my head that something looks awful, even if it turns out okay. from the pictures you’d never be able to tell it doesn’t fit properly!!

I love the fabric that you chose. Such a shame that you are not delighted with the construction – as it is a wonderful blouse. The sleeve detail is my favorite part. I wish I could offer you advice, but I’ve never used this pattern before. I’m guessing that you want it to be more figure flattering in the back? In that case, have you thought about putting in two narrow double-pointed darts? This would take out some of the ease and give more of an hour-glass look.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement! The back has princess seams, so you’d think it would be easy to get it flattering. However, it’s hard to stay frustrated with polka dots and fun buttons.
