I wanted to create a completely unique dress to wear to my brother’s wedding. The Ikea fabric (last picture) I had on hand really lead me to this design. The converging curve of the stripes was perfect for the skirt and I used the same on the bodice with all lines converging to the waist. Wow… what and illusion!
I based the cutting of the dress on the coffee date dress, but with alterations to make best use of the fabric: I swung the bust darts up into the neckline (and at the back too), I dropped the waist by approx 6cm (High waist makes my already plus bust look even bigger), and the skirt with less fullness, to follow the curve of the fabric.
So the result is a pretty striking look, a simple dress with wow fabric, and something I can dress up or down… and with Spring arriving soon in Australia, this one’s going to be fun!
