I made this bag to fill a huge gap in my life: adequate luggage for short trips that would be big enough to fit everything I needed but not so big that it would be a hassle on subways. It’s made from the Weekend Designer’s “Weekender” pattern, with minor adjustments and a change in the suggested fabrics (a second, contrasting upholstery rather than the suggested leather for the base and trims gave it the more bohemian/artsy look I was going for).
I just took it to NYC for the 4th, with smashing success, and already have hints for possible Christmas gifts.
I used 2 contrasting upholstery fabrics, but anything fairly heavy-weight will work fine
