Hi everyone! I made this tie-front blouse out of my boyfriend’s old dress shirt. I’m pretty happy with how it came out and hope to make many more variations of it with the bag full of donated clothing I have. Next time, I’d like to try a flutter sleeve of some sort…

haha, you have to try it! It has completely changed the way I look at “old” clothing. I keep telling everyone to donate all of it to me!

This blouse looks really well done. Im working on something similar for a romper Im refashioning. Im just having a bit of a technical brain fart. I have the bow pinned to the bodice right sides together, much like yours seems to have been. Yet when I tie a bow with the straps, the bow ends up on the inside. Im just wondering how you “exteriorize” (for lack of a better word) the straps/bow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Natalia! Thank you :)
Hmm as for your bow, I am having trouble imagining it – do you have a picture by chance? Did you leave the tie unsewn to the collar around the V? I think that happened to me as well when I had sewn the tie too far down and too close to the V part. After unstitching a couple inches, the bow seemed to fall more loosely.
If you email me a picture it could help…
Ophelia K made a great technique for this as well:

Good luck :)

Thank you for the link to the tutorial. I figured out what i did wrong. I had basted the raw edges of the “bow” together and then stitched those to the bodice, right sides together, making the ties on the inside of the shirt, instead of the outside.

I really like what you’ve done with the shirt. Love it! Agree with Amberlove, it doesn’t look upcycled at all.

Thank you Laura! I think the only place where you can tell is right around the pocket. I cut the seam right through the existing pocket but think it kinda looks cool that way.
