Burda Style For people who sew
Description
for the blouse
i used burda pattern (8/2009, mod 117)
but crated two ruffles on each side, instead of one
and i made them in different colors
..
i first tried hemming ruffles on my serger
but wasn’t really satisfied with how it looked
and how it draped
so i cut that hem off
and then used flame of the candle
to sort of melt ends of the ruffle
and seal them
..
i also made this skirt
i’ve made it a long time ago
and posted it on burdastyle
but if anyone is interested
pattern is from the same issue
of burda magazine as the blouse, mod. 128
(it’s a dress pattern actually)

chiffon (not of the silk kind) 1m in blue color, and scrap in black color

What a nice blouse! I love the color palette. Actually, I had the same problem with finishing the hem of the ruffle in my Like a Rainbow dress (http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/like-a-rainbow). I used the hemmer foot that creates straight, professional rolled hems on lightweight fabrics up to 2mm. The channel guide holds the rolled fabric and allows for a straighter hem. Try to use this, it gives a more neat look.

i knew, i have to invest in this foot :) i always try finding alternative solutions, and what i should do is simply to invest in those little things that make our lives easier (got myself invisible zip foot, and it’s sooo much faster to insert my zippers now)

That’s the best take i’ve seen on this blouse so far (and i saw many versions of it…). Great choice of fabrics and colors.

clever idea on the ruffles. I find them nearly impossible to finish well.

i’m pretty pleased with how this turned out.. takes a bit of practice on scraps, cause chiffon burns easily, and if this is not done carefully, flame tends to leave holes in the fabric, or ugly wavy uneven hem.. but with a bit of practice it’s fast and easy (and should probably be done outside, it stinks like hell)
